Your child will not receive piles of homework from me this year. I keep the kids busy working at school each day and I do believe that they need break time and family time in the evenings.
That said, I will have some math that will go home, the Reading Log and weekly spelling. Later in the year there will be other assignments that will be homework.

Weekly Spelling Plan:
Our spelling words are thematic. They are words we are using in our writing and talking that week. There may be some "skill" words in the list some weeks. There will be 10 basic words for everyone, and 1 or 2 bonus words that your child can choose (or choose not) to add to their list for the week. If a child is having a lot of difficulty with the words, I will decide to alter the amount of words they practice each week (maybe 5 instead of 10).
Each Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday) your child will bring home a list of their weekly spelling words. This is an at-home practice list. I tell the students to put it by their bed or on the fridge - somewhere where they will look at it. That sheet stays home.
We will practice our words during the week at school also. On Friday they will have a test. The test will likely be sent home on Friday with your child. It will have their score on it. I do not need them back. The test sheet looks like the practice sheet, except that the test sheet will always have their score.
Here are some fun ways your child can practice spelling words with your child at home. I will post more every month or so:
1) Rainbow Words - Write your words in three different colours.
2) Fancy Fingers - Use your fanciest writing to print your words. You can write your words with curly, dotty or other fancy letters!
3) Spelling Cheer - Pretend you're a cheerleader and cheer out your words to an adult at home.
4) Computer Fun - Use a computer to type out your words. Use different fonts and make them look really fun.
5) Practice Test - Have an adult quiz you on your spelling words.
